On the south side of the harbour at Gaios you’ll find a fascinating museum, where you can see artefacts dating back to ancient times, and tour rooms laid out in the styles of centuries gone by. You can also visit the olive press museum between Gaios and Lakka, and the old monastery on Panagia islet. A quarter of a million olive trees blanket the island of Paxos, so it’s no surprise that the olive oil here is some of the best you’ll taste. Buy superb local fish and seafood and cook it in the golden oil, then serve with a Greek-style salad and fresh, crusty bread. Dine out in friendly, authentic tavernas, and complement your meal with a glass of wine fresh from the vineyards on Antipaxos.
